Courses
Selecting the right course for you......
The Summer Academy program offers participants t
he opportunity to select courses during the Summer Sessions term. Session 1 and 2 are five weeks long and session 6 is seven weeks long. All classes are held on the University of California Riverside campus.
Summer Academy students attend classes with other Summer Sessions students.
This could be your summer to join over 2,600 high school students who have already taken advantage of this opportunity since 1995!
CLASS LOCATIONS!
Check where your classes will be held by visiting http://classes.ucr.edu/. Be sure to change the term to 10 SUMMER. This will also give you the name of your faculty.
TEXTBOOKS!
Contact the UCR Campus Store to find out if your faculty has requested a textbook for your course. You can call them at 951.827.2665 or visit them online at http://www.ucrcampusstore.ucr.edu/.
Thinking of taking more than one course in
a session?
We do not recommend taking more than one course if this is your first time participating in the Summer Academy. Due to the accelerated pace of the courses, the reduced session length, and rigorous course expectations, Summer Academy students should limit their selection to one course per session.
If you are a Fellow to the program and have completed past courses with a successful outcome, the Summer Academy office will consider your request to take 2 classes during one session. However, please note that the Summer Academy office will make this exception on an individual basis and does not automatically grant approval to this request.
Thinking of taking a course in the Second Session?
If you are interested in taking a course during Summer Session 2, please note that the Summer faculty may or may not accommodate individual schedules. It is your responsibility to confirm that your Summer Session 2 class will not conflict with the start of your new high school year. (Verification from your high school or a written statement from a parent/guardian may be requested by the Summer Academy office.)
Have you met the course prerequisites?
When selecting your course, please read the course description carefully to be certain that you have met prerequisites, if required. It is suggested that you schedule to take a Foreign Language Placement Exam or the Math Advisory Exam/California Chemistry Diagnostic Test well in advance of the first day of class to be certain you can still enroll in an alternate class should you not pass the exam. Information concerning placement exams will be provided as links under specific course selections.
This website's 2010 Course List contains the most up-to-date information on courses. Please check this page prior to the start of your session to see if changes have affected your class(es).
