Take the First Step Towards a College Degree
The UCR Summer Academy for Advanced High School Students is a great way to take your first step towards a college degree in a summer school environment. Enroll in a class or two and find out what the college experience is really like. Students overcome any doubts about their college career, receive a grade based on the same standards as full-time UCR students and get full UC course credit.
Over 80% of students in this program earn a grade of "B" or higher in their first UCR course.
Students are encouraged to enroll in a variety of classes throughout their high school careers. The Summer Academy Fellows Program helps to make this simplistic and affordable by rewarding returning students.
The Academy is not a guaranteed admission program, it simply gives students an advantage over their peers when they enroll as full-time college students later. Many participants return each summer throughout their high school career to take classes that fulfill the general education requirements, which can position them beyond Freshman status once they are admitted.
Note: If you are graduating senior, visit Summer Sessions website to apply to take courses starting this summer before starting your frenshman year this fall.

How this Program Works:
The program offers the opportunity for advanced high school students to earn experience and collegiate credit prior to graduating. Running concurrently with the Summer Session, the program has several benefits, including:
- Opening the door for students to enroll in a regular UC course
- Allowing them to receive a grade based on the same standards as a regular UC student
- Receiving full UC credit for their accomplishments, which is transferable to most institutions of higher learning
- Students select a class from a recommended course list taken from the Summer Session course offerings. They attend class along with undergraduate college students and earn course credit on an official UC transcript.
The recommended course list includes classes in the following subjects
- Arts
- Anthropology
- Art History
- Business Administration
- Computer Science
- Creative Writing
- Economics
- Education
- English
- Ethnic Studies
- Foreign Languages
- History
- Linguistics
- Math
- Music
- Philosophy
- Political Science
- Psychology
- Religious Studies
- Sociology
- Theatre
- and from many other subjects for you to choose from.
